2012 Topps Heritage High Number Rockies Team Set

You see that card of the old guy to the right, yup, that's the Rockies team set. Jamie Moyer, who was designated for assignment by Colorado on May 30th, was then signed, pitched in AAA and was released by the Blue Jays and Orioles and has been without a MLB contract since July 6th is the lone Rockies player in a product released in November. Moyer got two cards in Topps Update, which is fine, a 49 year old winning an MLB game was a good story and worthy of being recognized on cardboard, but that should have been it. Then Moyer got a card in Bowman Chrome for no good reason and now he is the only Rockies in the Heritage update set. Of the 49 players to play for the Rockies this season, Moyer was the first player to be let go by the team making him the the least current player possible for an "update" set.

Trade w/ Ryan's Pitch

The best part of blogging here, trades. Package from Ryan's Pitch arrived today with some good stuff, just scanned a few highlights. The traded focused on some of his needs for '91 Fleer, and I got one I needed in return. I saw Berryhill catch for the Giants in my first Coors Field pilgrimage in 1997, he hit a 2 run home run in a Rockies loss, and this is a sweet catcher in action card. Among other good stuff a Thomas Field floating head I needed for the one of every Rockies collection. A couple 2011 GQ including an awesome Green Framed Tulo and a Ubaldo mini. And my first Iannetta with the Angels. Great trade, thanks.

2012 Heritage Group Break Results

I recently joined in my first group break, 4 boxes of 2012 Heritage with 2 packs of 2012 Topps Tribute thrown in as a bonus. I picked the Rockies without realizing that there were no Rockies in the Chrome parallels. The highlight is the Tulo image swap, but other than that I got my ass kicked, ending up with one floating head Chrome (HP100), a Tulowitzki regular short print and a Carlos Gonzalez SP along with the base set and 3 floating head cards. The Rockies were shut out on the Tribute packs. Fairly disappointing results considering the Rockies are heavily featured in the short prints, maybe its karma for making fun of Heritage when it came out.

Questions for Team Collectors

Rockies or D-Backs?

I have been planning on doing this post for a while, but finally just got around to it, a few months ago the kind individual behind Cards from the Quarry let me see his "One of every Rockies" master list to compare with mine, while we had the players the same, our definition of what constitutes a Rockies card differed slightly. Among the differences were Jeff Fassero and Bruce Hurst, both have one card in a Rockies uniform, but are listed as D-Backs and Rangers. The reverse happened with Jose Mesa, who has cards listing him with the Rockies, but only shown in a Pirates uniform. Multi-player cards also came into question, Mark Strittmatter appears on two multi-player cards, not one of his own, but both feature only Rockies players, Thomas Field has his first card in the new heritage, but it has a Giant and a Cardinal on it. So a question to team collectors, what are your opinions on what constitutes a team card, I am curious to see how other people define team cards (and if anyone actually reads this)

Disclaimer: I am not trying to bash Topps Heritage, I know people enjoy it and good on them, but I personally have no attachment to any set prior to 1971 so I care not for Heritage, this is just my personal option and an attempt (perhaps a poor one) at humor. Here are my reasons for making fun of Heritage.

Reason 1: Glamor shots, I hate posed head shots, it makes me think of Deb from Napoleon Dynamite, I imagine it going down like this, just replace Buster Posey for Uncle Rico.
