These scans have dust on them.

Sometimes I tell myself I am super organized, sometimes I put files in folder to keep them straight, and then totally forget about them for months. This is the case here with a package from oldest friend of the blog, Mr. Buckstorecards. As always a nice stack of cards with too many to scan them all, but a few highlights made it to the scanner, starting with a straight black patch of David Krejci and a very rare brand for me, Ray Bourque from The Cup.

The second part of the first COMC package of the year, you wouldn't think it would take almost 30 years to complete a 6 card set, but here we are, in 2020, finally finishing off the 1991 Score Bobby Orr insert set. Also coming along was this weird Upper Deck insert of a young Saint Robert wearing number 30 for some reason.

BaseballCardStore - Hockey Pick-ups

Part 2 of the baseballcardstore.ca order, of course a Canadian site would have hockey cards. Some things they not have less of and I have more of, shiny Bruins goalies! A Select Tuukka, a very shiny Lord Byron and a Gold Medallion of the Lach Ness Monster. 

A Rare Intraprovincial Trade

A rare trade in which the cards didn't even have to leave the province, the start being St. Robert from last years Canadian Tire set, followed up by a big stack of set help.

Spoiling Myself, Bobby Orr Style

I recently ended up with a nice little bit of cash in my Paypal after doing some custom graphic design work, and instead of doing something responsible, or even saving it for the two boxes of 2016 Gypsy Queen I will inevitably buy, I sent out to spend it on cards I normally couldn't afford. Above was the first purchase and the one I wanted the most. I opened a few packs of Masterpeices when it came out and really liked it, and have always wanted an on-card auto of Bobby Orr, or Saint Robert as he is know in this house, so this was high on my list of "someday, maybe, I might own one of these" cards. It's absolutely gorgeous and is currently, and will be for a long time, displayed most prominently off all the cards in my collection.

Cleaning out the Scan folder again

I intended to clean up my office, but that quickly took a back seat to catching up on scanning and cleaning out the scan folder and to be scanned pile. These are all from a previous COMC order, and with a new one on the way it was way past time to post some of these and scan them in. Starting with some 2011 In The Game Canadiana of Terry Puhl, one of the very few Saskatchewan born MLB players. Nice to have an auto of his and a sweet red patch from the old Astros uni even if they are unlicensed.

Binder 9

I have seen a lot people around doing this, so I took some time to go through my collection and see what I could come up with for my top 9 cards, I started limited to baseball, but there was a few that I really didn't want to leave off, so it became multi-sport.

Dollar Store Trading

Another trade with fellow Canadian, Sportscards From the Dollar Store, a sweet orange swatch from an "Event Worn workout jersey", and as weird as it is seeing Tulo in an orange jersey, it sounds like seeing him in a different jersey might be a permanent thing sooner than later.

First card show in about a decade with 2 pickups

There are a lot of things I have done since getting back into collecting, but one thing that was missing was going to a card show. This past weekend it just happened that I was in the city for a wedding the same day an actual sports card show was going on. It was pretty much what I expected, around 20 tables with about 95% hockey. Very little wax, almost nothing for dime and dollar boxes, pretty much everything was overpriced modern relics and auto's with a bit of vintage mixed in. With almost no baseball or CFL, my main goal was to find a 1971-72 O-Pee-Chee Bobby Orr in decent shape. I already had about 10 Bruins from that year, and the Orr was going to be the most expensive card to finish the team set. After about ten tables I found one that looked good for only $25.00. After asking to look at it, it had serious paper loss on the back, all four corners, like it had been taped into a book, even at a discount from the original $25, I was not interested. A few more tables in, another 1971 Orr in good shape, again for $25.00, again leading to disappointment as flipping it over revealed it to be Topps instead the OPC I desired. Stopping a the last table there was a Bobby Orr, right on the price tag "1971-72 OPC" with "$100.00" underneath it. Then to the right of that "Sale, $25.00"

It's a little off center, has some imperfections on the surface and the corners are a little soft, in no way a $100.00 card, but for $25.00 cash I am pretty happy with it. As with most vintage, the scan really brings out the flaws, but it looks good in hand, and after looking on secondary markets, I think I did pretty good for $25. Walking up to the dealer a stack of Young Guns caught my eye and after coming up empty looking for a Torey Krug, I did grab a Carl Soderberg, marked at $10, on sale for $2.25, and it ending up being a throw in with the Orr for a total of $25.00.
