Binder 9

I have seen a lot people around doing this, so I took some time to go through my collection and see what I could come up with for my top 9 cards, I started limited to baseball, but there was a few that I really didn't want to leave off, so it became multi-sport.

Cam Neely, 1984-85 OPC #327 - A card from my childhood collection before my collecting hiatus, Neely was my favorite player for my favorite team as a kid, but it's not a Bruins card that made the cut, it's the rookie in the crazy Vancouver "V" jerseys back when base rookie cards were still a big deal.

Jon Gray, 2014 Bowman Inception Black Collection #BBC-JG - I love Bowman Black Collection autos. This is the second of two cards that feature Gray, but this one has the best looking photo. I had to pick one of these and with the chance the Jon Gray might become the dominant homegrown pitcher that the Rockies have always wanted, that hope that gave this card the edge over the rest.

Nolan Ryan, 1971 OPC #513 - When my dad gave me his old box of cards, this card really stood out. Nolan Ryan was a Met? Also the fact there was a player that was still around from back then was pretty neat. I had to pick at least one card from my favorite set of all time, and the Ryan gets the nod over a close second Thurman Munson.

John Buck, 2002 Playoff Absolute Memorabilia Tools of the Trade Materials #94 - Usually mem cards don't get me too excited, but as a catcher collector, this one is pretty sweet. Pieces of glove, chest protector, shin guard and a seldom seen piece of facemask, this one had to make the list.

Carlos Gonzalez, 2012 Topps Gypsy Queen Autographs #GQA-CG - You knew there had to be a Gypsy Queen card on the list, this one makes the cut as the only pack-pulled card of the 9. 2012 was the first year I bought my annual 2 boxes of GQ and if there was one card I realistically want to pull it was this one.

Ubaldo Jimenez, 2011 Topps Marquee Museum Collection Autographs #MCA-UJ - Topps Marquee was the precursor to Museum Collection and these cards are amazing, super shiny with a thick metal frame. Ubaldo has not done anything special recently, but his 2010 season was pretty magical.

Sean Taylor 2005 Leaf Certified Materials Mirror Gold Materials #120 - I started collecting Taylor pretty much the minute the Redskins drafted him, and this is my favorite card of his. With no certified autos I had to go with a mem card and this jersey with a piece of patch had always been on display in the card room. A no brainer.

Bobby Orr, 1971-72 OPC #100 - A recent pickup, I don't do much vintage but I was on a quest to find one of these in decent shape. Picked this one up at a card show and it instantly was at the top of my favorites list.

Ramon Hernandez, 2013 Topps Platinum Parallel #165 - My first completed rainbow (I don't count printing plates) and this is the 1/1 platinum. I feel like I have posted this card 1,000 times, but it had to be on this list.

  1. Great batch of cards. I have certain cards that I feel like I've posted a thousand times as well, but I still hear something new about a few of 'em once in a while. Oh, and man, that Nolan Ryan is incredible.

  2. I'd go with The Express over Munson also, and yup - that multi-equipment catchers card is the shite!
