Devilishly Good Trade

A TCDB trade with the prolific trader DukeyDevil, starting off with the elephant in the card room that has been ignored until now. Washington Redskins Football Team cards. Do these go in the Redskins binder? Kerrigan is already in there, but Davis never was a Redskin. For now these are probably going to end up penny sleeved in the Redskins keeper box, but as time goes on, I will have to figure something out. 

Trading with Canadians 2020.2

A tcdb trade from before things got weird, highlight by, yes, a 1990 Pro Set card. For all the Pro Set I opened and traded for, I never have a Ray Bourque "corrected" variation, until now. A much as this set epitomizes "junk wax", it has really grown on me over the years, including all the little errors and quirks in the set.

Remember the Astrodome / TCDB Trade

A Trading Card DB trade that I didn't realize until later was with Remember the Astrodome, giving my first taste of 2017 Heritage. I will probably never be a huge heritage fan (unless they start the use in-game photo's, or until we get to 1971) but I always like the expanded checklist that give players like Saskatchewan born and Team Canada vet Dustin Molleken cards. I also get to check Cristhian Adames' weirdly spelled name off the One of Every Rockies checklist.

10 Card Sportlots Mailday

I like Sportlots, although it takes a lot for me to make an order, adding things until there is enough from one seller to justify placing an order. One card that was on my list for a while was this 2001 Topps Traded Roberto Kelly. Kelly played in 1,337 MLB games, but none of those with the Rockies making this a true "Zero year" card. He did play 63 games with the Rockies AAA team in Colorado Springs, but never made it to the majors in 2001. A two time All-Star and the guy that broke up Dave Stieb's perfect game with 2 outs in the 9th in 1989.

A Football trade in Football Season

My second straight football focused trade, again mostly Redskins, starting off with one of my favorite players, Brad Edwards, from one of my favorite sets, 1992 Pinnacle. As much as I like the 1992 design, I was really lacking in the football output from that year.

Final Zistle Trade of 2014

Just getting around to posting the last Zistle trade of the year, staring off with my favorite card of the batch, a Jim Lachey from 1992 Wild Card. While not a member of the original Hogs Offensive Line, Lachey was one of the better lineman in the league when healthy, and looks like an honorary Hog in this photo.

Another smaller Zistle trade, In exhcange for some pirates BucCollector sent back a few randoms from the want-list. The Carlos Gonzalez above was the lone Rockies card, a Diamond Star from 2011 Topps.

TTM Success: Matt Herges

Kind of a weird TTM success in the fact I didn't actually mail this to Matt Herges himself. About a month ago I got an email about one of the first customs I posted, a 1992 Pinnacle Matt Herges, and if I would sell a couple to get signed. Not wanting to sell homemade cards I asked if that I mailed a few out, that one could be signed and mailed back to me. The deal was made and the return arrived in the mail today, signed with a gold sharpie at a R.C. Quakes game, a Dodgers affiliate where Herges is the pitching coach.

Trade with Kyle D

A new trade with Kyle D bringing some high priority wants my way.

Edwin Bellorin was need for the "One of Every Rockie" collection and the last catcher I needed. One of the few players with only one card with the Rockies, no other sets, no parallels, no inserts, just this one card. I remember Bellorin for having big numbers in the hitting paradise that is AAA Colorado Springs, then in his first major league at bat in his first major league start, pulled a hamstring running out a grounder and was sent to the disabled list. He did return to the Rockies playing in 8 games, starting 2, from 2007-2009.

Another Zistle Trade

One of my goals for 2013 was to trade more and so far it's off to a good start. Another trade with LV's TTM autographs and Baseball Cards through Zistle featuring some of my favorite sets. Starting off with the first tall-boy baseball card to enter my collection, a Howard Johnson 1994 Extra Bases card, I know I bought a bunch of hockey cards this size as a kid so I must have some 6 pocket pages somewhere. Also some Rockies minis and a Yorvit Torrealba who is back with Colorado on a minor league deal. The rest included some 1992 Pinnacle series 2 and 1995 Upper Deck, two sets I love, but have so few of I haven't really thought about finishing them. A 1971 style Ryan Zimmerman and some Gypsy Queen minis, I love the black borders and the Carlos Ruiz is one of my favorite cards of 2012. The whole thing finished off with a lone Redskin, Sultan McCullough who played one game with Washington and I think finished his career in the CFL.

Goals for 2013

I wasn't going to do a post on this, but reading a few other list got me thinking about what my goals are as far as collecting so here it is.

1. Keep the blog active, the minimum I have set for myself is 2 posts a week but I hope to stay more active than that.

2. Complete more trades, in little over a year I did 15 trades, so about one a month, not bad but a few more would be nice.

3. Finish the "One of every Rockie" collection. After a COMC purchase yesterday I am down to 9 players from 1993-2012. The remanining 9 are Gary Wayne, Aaron Ledesma, Ross Gload, Justin Speier, Chris Richard, Adam Melhuse, Edwin Bellorin, Rob Scahill and Thomas Field. The list will grow once the 2013 products come out but I want to focus on these ones first.

4. Complete a 2013 set, I will be buying 2 boxes of 2013 Gypsy Queen which should get me close to the base set leaving me to work on any short prints.

5. Complete 2 older sets, right now I am looking at 1992 Pinnacle and 2012 Gypsy Queen short prints, or at least all of them other than the Darvish.

6. Get my 2011 GQ set above 50%, right now I have 147 out of 350 (42%) including 33 of 50 short prints (66%).

7. Acquire at least one more 1977 Topps Mexican NFL Redskin, I am down to 7 for the team set with mostly expensive short prints left.

8. Get a TTM autograph, I was going to try this last past year, but the NHL lockout put this on hold, I will try a few over the year and see what happens.

9. Get an in person auto, more on this next week hopefully.

10. See a pro baseball game, this might be a small goal for some, but with the closest MLB stadium over 850 miles and an international border away, it's a big deal for me. Any planned trips look like they will be to a minor league stadium so we will see what happens there.

11. Buy a box of cards other than Gypsy Queen, last year I was all set to buy a box of 2012 Update or Bowman Draft, but I blew my budget on two cards costing around $80 combined in Tim Thomas and Daniel Paille autographs.

12. Add to my Rockies autograph cards, Matt Holliday, Larry Walker and Andres Galarraga top this list.

Sportlots Mailday 11/20/2012

Another mailday from sportlots.com, more of the standard package for me. Six Rockies cards I needed bringing the "One of every Rockies" collection up to 92% complete with some harder to find 2002 Upper Deck 40-man. 13 cards from 1992 Pinnacle series 1 bringing me to withing 15 cards of the set. This seller only had three 2011 Gypsy Queens I needed so I snatched those up along with the two Redskins safeties I collect in Brad Edwards and Sean Taylor. We don't get many card shows around these parts so Sportlots is kind of like going through a dime box for me and it never fails to add something to my collection that I have been searching for.

A Royaly Random Trade

Another Zistle based trade, this time with fellow blogger Royals and Randoms. He wanted my Billy Butler 2012 Gypsy Queen Relic card and while I am hesitant to trade away GQ cards, this is my second trade with Josh and I know he will appreciate it much more than I will, so into the post it went along with assorted Royals and randoms. Coming my way was the usual Rockies including catcher Charles Johnson, some obscures from Topps Total and a couple 2003 Fleer Authentix that I really like, along with and few randoms, how sweet is that 1987 Franco card and Dante Bichette looking weird in a Reds jersey. I always liked Glavine as a kid, and something I recently realized I was missing was a Tom Glavine rookie card, this trade remedied that with a 1988 Donruss Glavine. For set needs, one more card knocked off the 2011 Gypsy Queen want list, and 15 cards from 1992 Pinnacle bringing me to within 26 cards of the series 1 set and finishing off the first page in the binder with card #7 Willie McGee. As an extra he threw in a Rockies program, I have a few of these from pilgrimages to Coors Field, but nothing from this season so it's greatly appreciated. As always, thanks for the great trade.

Zistle Trade #3

Another Zistle trade completed, this time a small one bringing me my first 2012 Allen and Ginter card as well as finishing off my 1995 Upper Deck Rockies team set. I really like the Ginter design from this year, but wish they would dump the gimmicky crap. The Nolan Ryan brings me one card closer to finishing 1992 Pinnacle and the John Buck with the painted goalie style mask is for the catcher collection.

Zistle Trade #2

Another Zistle trade completed with a fellow blogger at LV's TTM autographs and Baseball Cards. In exchange for player collection needs I got to cross off some cards from the wantlist. First off some 2012 archives, I was not sold on this set even though I am a huge fan of the 1971 design. I think it losses something with the modern day players. Also some Rockies, comparing the Opening Day Pomeranz with the base card further instills my dislike of foil printed names on cards. A couple 2011 Gypsy Queens to cross off the list and a 1992 Pinnacle Damon Berryhill for the catchers collection.

Zistle Trade #1

I don't think I really profess my love for www.zistle.com enough on this blog, but I do love the site for organizing collections and want-lists. I recently completed my first trade on Zistle, and really love how easy it is to start a trade with the want-list/trade-list capabilities on the site. Coming my way was the usual trade package, some 1992 Pinnacle needs including the Dibble to the right and some random catchers for the "Tools of Ignorance" collection. What could me more awesome than an Expo catcher with a goalie style mask. The 2009 John Baker is a personal favorite card of mine and some additions to the Ron Hassey collection.

Eutaw Street Cardboard Mailday

Just a quick post showing of some finds from the Eutaw Street Cardboard "Selling out for the National" sale he did.It's not a secret that I love Gypsy Queen so I jumped on the chance to add a new black and green mini, the black minis are my favorite cards from 2012 so far by a long ways. Also got a couple Rockies catchers, who doesn't love Jayhawk Owens,  and a former Rockies catcher in Blanco, one of my favorite cards of 2011 looking really good as a red bordered D-Backs card, and a couple young Rockies pitching prospects in Tago and Matzek. The Cal Ripken leaves me 45 cards short of the 1992 Pinnacle Series 1 set.

Trade With All The Way To The Backstop

What could be better than turning cards from a division rival into cards of your team. A recently completed trade with All The Way To The Backstop, a kindred spirit in that we both collect catchers and 1992 Pinnacle, and being that he is a Padres fan we probably share a dislike of all things Dodgers and Giants, turned some old Padres cards into Rockies with a few other goodies mixed in. For the Rockies cards everything from 1993's to 2012's. I completely skipped out on this years Bowman so this group is a nice sample with a Pacheco gold and a Tyler Gagnon numbered to 199. Also a few Expos yet to become Rockies in Larry Walker and Andres Galarraga. Finishing it off with some 1992 Pinnacle bringing me to within 46 cards of finishing the set.

Pinnacle Apprecation: 1992

Topps is in their second year of baseball monopoly, and while I am not hating on Topps I do miss the other products, looking back the one I miss the most is Pinnacle. 1992 was the first year of Pinnacle baseball after producing football and hockey sets in 1991, with both sets sharing the same design. 1992 added baseball and shared the same design with hockey and football. 1992 Pinnacle remains in my top 5 set designs of all time. It was Score's higher end product but still suffers from overproduction with the most valuable base card being the Manny Ramirez rookie which books around $4.00. I love the black borders and the nice simple design with the team color gradient adding some color, but nothing garish. The lack of team logos might turn some people off but I would rather them left off than have then intrude on the design. The photo selection is decent and appealing to me is a lot of the catchers are featured with there gear on, which I love.
