Football Frankenset - July 2022

036 - 2012 Panini Gridiron - Julius Peppers

If you have seen any of these post, you know there will be steaming hot special teams action, this card delivers in a big way.

Football Frankenset - April 2022

#014 - 2003 UD Honor Roll - Chad Hutchinson

Two sport athletes are a must to include somewhere, Hutchinson played in 15 NFL games between the Cowboys & Bears as well as 3 games with the Cardinals of the MLB.

Football Frankenset - Feb 2022

Just in time for the upcoming Big Game, the first 2022 installment of the Football Frankenset.

010 - 2018 Panini Classics - Justin Tucker

Most likely the next Hall of Fame Kicker and Super Bowl XLVII champ, showing off a lot here, including the all purple color rush on a cool retro-style design.

Football Frankenset - Nov 2021

Enough in the scan folder to post, so here we go

#60-  2020 Rookies & Stars - Allen Robinson
Best post one-shell rule throwbacks by far, great helmet, great jersey, great socks.

Football Frankenset - Oct 2021

It's football season and the Skins Football Team won so why not

150 -  2019 Prestige - Antonio Brown
A first ballot entry to the Zero Year Hall of Fame, and the third appearance for Antonio Brown although both others have been bumped.

Football Frankenset - July 2021

Trevor Story didn't win the Home Run thingy, so here is a Frankenset Post

009 -  1995 Stadium Club - George Koonce
I love Linebacker ready to strike pre-snap pics, I also love these gross Green Bay throwbacks. While I am loving things, I love that this completes the first page in the binder of the physical Frankenset.

Football Frankenset - April 2021

The scan folder is full enough to post while watching the NFL draft, so here we go.

002 -  2008 Upper Deck Rookie Exclusives - Ryan Clady
I really wanted a card featuring the blue turf of Boise State, so here it is. Clady also had a pretty damn good career, 100+ games played, 4x Pro Bowl, 3x All-Pro, 2x 1st team All-Pro and a Super Bowl ring.

008 - 2011 Topps - Blair White
White didn't have much of a career, but at least he got a great photo on his 2011 Card.

018 - 2002 Score - Randall Cunningham
Randall Cunningham had a really weird career, from a star with the Eagles, followed by injuries, retirement, a comeback with the Vikings, going 15-1 and being named All Pro, to backup in Dallas and finally, one season as a backup in Baltimore.

037 - 2007 JOGO - Kelly Bates
A beauty of a Grey Cup celebration, with a bonus for a local guy who I have met a couple times.

 129 - 2011 Topps - Lawrence Timmons
Another from 2011 Topps, this time a sweet throwback with a bonus "Defensive player with ball" shot.

218 - 1999 Score - Rich Gannon
Always weird to see a guy taking a beat down on his own card.

256 - 1993 Playoff - Seth Joyner
This may be one of my favorite base cards of all-time, special teams shots just have so much going on, love it.

262 - 1997 Score - Dale Carter
I don't notice seeing this much anymore, but the mid 90's had a real helmet on backwards thing going on. Also just noticing how grossly off-center this card is.

325 - 1993 Skybox Impact - Anthony Munoz
Not much going on here other than a Hall of Fame lineman? That is, until you notice the Bucs logo in the corner from a short lived comeback attempt, that I didn't either didn't know about or remember until seeing this card recently.

551 - 1991 Pacific - Brett Favre
There is just something fascinating about Brett Favre in a Falcons uni, so until something better at number 551 comes along, here we are.

Football Frankenset - Feb 2021

039 - 1995 Score - Ron Moore
Is it a Jets card or a Cardinals card, either way it is a rare photo of the Cardinals white version of the 1994 throwback unis. I am totally a fan of the small front number in the upper right.

063 - 1995 Upper Deck - Ethan Horton
More 1994 throwbacks, lots of Redskins, lots of 1995 Upper Deck, get used to it.

117 - 2003 Upper Deck - Champ Bailey
Keeping with the throwback Skins theme, this time from 2002, the beloved "spear helmet" throwbacks that I would love to see make a comeback at some point.

126 - 1991 Pro Set - Bill Belichick
I miss coach cards, also a jacket so sweet he couldn't stand to cut the sleeves off.

144 - 1988 Topps - Brian Bosworth
"The Boz", a lot of hype and not a lot of production from the Super Rookie, partly in thanks Bo Jackson knowing a thing or two about running over linebackers.

278 - 1990 Fleer - Lomas Brown
I think the first pack of football cards I ever opened was from 1990 Fleer, so I have a soft spot for it. Also a great O-Lineman card with the tinted visor (zip tie sighting) and the crazy plastic facemask.

311 - 1991 Pacific - Greg McMurtry
I really, really love great special teams photo like this one.

354 - 1989 Pro Set - Rod Woodson
Rookie card of a Hall of Famer, for no reason other than I like Rod Woodson and I like Pro Set. Potential defensive player with the ball card, put he returned a lot of kick in his day, so it's kind of cheating.

374 - 2003 Upper Deck MVP - Taylor Jacobs
A pre-color rush rarity, the Redskins never wore the All-Ketchup getup until 2008, this was just an oddity from a rookie photo-shoot.

486 - 1991 Score - Dean Biasucci
1991 Score is another low-key great set from the junkiest of junk wax era. Triple exposure shot of a kicker, sign me up.

Football Frankenset - November 2020

#67 - 1993 Playoff Contenders - Bernie Kosar
A rare mid-season short term stop, Kosar played in 4 regular season games with the Cowboys, and finished the year with a Super Bowl ring.

Football Frankenset - Kickoff Weekend 2020

No better time to post a Frankenset post than after wrapping up Week one of the 2020 season.

#16 - 1996 Pinnacle Summit - Emmitt Smith
This card went from an obvious "Silence of the Lambs" reference, to something dumb about The 'Rona.

Football Frankenset - June 2020

#52 - 2008 Upper Deck - Terrell Owens
"Getcha Popcorn Ready" Bonus points for the throwback uni.

Saturday, 2 May 2020

Football Frankenset - May 2020

#3 - 2015 Upper Deck CFL - Weston Dressler
The Saskatchewan Roughriders version of the CFL's bizarre Signature Jersey experiment from 2014 and 2015. Mini wheat sheathes on the helmet, shoulders and numbers make this a weird one that thankfully didn't last very long.

15 from 4 w/ Frankenset Goodness

15 Cards from 4 Sportlots packages starting with 3 for the "One of Every Bruins" project that is not a high priority but seems to be growing, tough guy Colton Orr, short term stop Sergei Gonchar in a Winnie the Pooh uni and Alexei Zhamnov with a short term stop / sunset card.

Football Frankenset, Mid November 2019

028 - 2008 UD Masterpieces - Dwight Clark

"The Catch", what more needs to be said.

041 - 1995 Ultra - Curtis Conway

Another reminder at how awful the NFL is treating the 100th Anniversary season compared to the 75th.

051 - 2013 Prizm - Kevin Kolb

A zero year card of the often injured Kevin Kolb, after playing for Eagles and Cardinals, signed with the Bills in 2013, but missed the entire season with a concussion and was forced to retire.

074 - 2018 Absolute - Teddy Bridgewater

Another zero year QB, Bridgewater was signed by the Jets in 2018, but was traded to the Saints before the start of the season as the Jets went with Sam Darnold.

082 - 2019 Elite - Antonio Brown

The Antonio Brown saga not only brought a good amount of entertainment, but also a large amount of zero year cards.

112 - 1994 Collector's Edge - John Offerdahl

When you think of Miami and Dallas, you don't really think of snow games, unless you remember this 1993 Thanksgiving game. Also bonus points for the 1990's era neck guard on the shoulder pads.

146 - 1991 Pro Set WLAF - John Layfield

I love adding weird teams, and the San Antonio Riders of the World League are pretty weird. John Layfield might not be a well known name, but he did go on to pretty big success as JBL and Bradshaw in the WWE.

263 - 2008 Bowman - Leodis McKelvin

The red "Standing Buffalo" throwback, by far my favorite of the Buffalo uniforms, and one of the few still in play with a simple decal swap.

Football Frankenset Aug/Sept 2019 Adds

077 - 2001 Ultra - Jon Ritchie
Great shot of a fullback clearing the hole, bonus points for dirt baseball infield and a card design that lets the photo be the star.

COMC Frankenset Adds

005 - 2011 Certified - Tom Brady
The classic Patriot Pat throwbacks looking good on a cool red foil-y card

Monday, 29 July 2019

Football Frankenset - July 2019 Pickups

029 - 1998 Skybox Premium - Dwayne Rudd

There have been some tough choices so far, this was not one of them, I really doubt anything will displace Dwayne Rudd with an actual Vikings helmet.

Football Frankenset - June Pickups

Only 4 adds this month (next month will be better) so I will add some that I already had before the project began.

025 - 1996 Pinnacle - Jerry Rice:
The second Jerry Rice card so far, reminding us all how great Pinnacle was in the 90's. You hardly so inserts this cool anymore, let alone base cards

Sunday, 2 June 2019

Football Frankenset - May Pickups

004 - 1998 Bowman - Takeo Spikes:
Not sure if a linebacker flying through the uprights is still worth 3 points. This card also gets bonus points for the tiny kitty logo in the upper left, and bonus bonus points for the name Takeo Spikes.

TCDB Trade 44(ish?) (w/ Frankenset Adds)

A pretty cool trade pack with some variety. Starting with some Gypsy Queen SP set help, with these being one per box there are a little more expensive to pick up, so if I can trade for them it makes my life easier.

(I was going to title this post "I know I suck at coming up with witty post titles", but it seemed a little long.)
