Rockies Topps Now Player's Weekend Review

Sometimes I really don'y know myself. I say I don't like Topps Now and I really wasn't too sure about Players Weekend, but here I am buying Topps Now cards of Players Weekend cards.

I bought this set last year when I didn't really like the Rockies road grey jerseys, but this year I really liked the home black and purple, so I didn't hesitate to pick up the set. 

Although this year was not a straight forward as this year. Last year was a 5 card set. Simple. This year was a five card set, but if you bought 5 sets you got a bonus card and if you bought 10 sets you got two bonus cards. Fearing the cost on the secondary market, and the scarceness of some Topps Now Cards (I am still looking for the Neshek from last years post-season set), I was suckered into the ten sets and two bonus cards. So if anyone wants to buy a set from me, I have 9 for sale.

Also, like last year, the Rockies had a 6 game winning streak, so another bonus card will be on it's way, which is a plus.

One Card Mailday (Topps Now Edition)

I have a love-hate relationship with Topps Now, I love the "moment in time" cards, but the price always throws me off, $10 plus shipping to Canada or processing through COMC is a lot for me, so I was mostly limited to picking them on the secondary market. I probably would have done the same with this one, but it came out the same time as the Player's Weekend set, so it shared shipping with that order, and surprisingly the Spring Training code from the Mike Trout came that came out in the spring still worked.

2x3 PWE

A rare PWE makes it way across the border via Jeff at 2x3 Heroes. I am always happy to add some new Ben Petricks to the Rockies catcher collection, but this card blew my mind. 2000 Upper Deck HoloGrFX Stars of the System is the craziest refractory card I own, it's actually hard to look at it, it kind of gives my vertigo looking at, I love it. I kind of want to get 8 more and just fill a page with them.

Top 30 Colorado Rockies Cards (7-1)

Here are the final cards with 6 of the 7 being from Upper Deck, in fact cards 2-9 are all Upper Deck releases. I expected UD to have a strong showing, but am a little surprised there was not more Score. 13 of the 30 are Horizontal cards, which I have to agree give better photos, but look like crap in binders. Feel free to leave comments on cards that I might have missed or cards that are to high or low, I would like to come back to this at some point so I will be keeping track and adding to the list and any help or feedback is greatly appreciated.

7. Walt Weiss - 1995 Upper Deck #413

The Rockies new manager and the second 1995 Upper Deck on the list. Just a great photo with a set that focuses on the photo. Bonus points for an Expo sighting.

Top 30 Colorado Rockies Cards (30-22)

Posts have been getting farther and farther apart on this blog so I borrowed an idea from Night Owl's "The Best Dodger Cards Ever Made" Countdown and the "The Dime Boxes Top 100" lists. Here I present my "Top 30 Rockies Cards That I Could Think Of Over This Past Week" Countdown. My only rule was to not take into account value of the card, just judge the card on it's own merits. 30 seems like a weird number, but with a team that only goes back to 1993, that is were I started to run out of cards that I thought were worthy of a list. Broken up into 3 or 4 posts, here is what I came up with for cards 30-21. 

30. Preston Wilson - 2005 Topps #53

Nothing overly special here, just a nice action photo with the ball in flight and Wilson about to make a sliding catch. Not a big fan of the 2005 design, but it's not bad enough to detract from card. Wilson set career highs in his first with Colorado in 2003 with 36 home runs and 141 RBI, but had fallen out of favor with the organization by 2005 and would be traded to the Nationals in July of 2005.
