The Most Expensive Checklist I Will Ever Own (aka the Joy of a completed team set)

I don't even know when I started this project. In my mind I can track it back to at least 5 moves ago, so that is right around 2001. I have been chipping away, adding cards, and after I picked up my personal white whale in Eddie Brown, the end was near. When everything fell together for this card it was too hard to pass up.

It was listed for a ridiculous $299.99 from big-time PSA seller 4 Sharp Corners, then reduced down to $90.99, still a little high, but everyones favorite online auction site had a 20% off everything discount, good for a savings of  $18.20. Figure that in with $6.00 shipping to Canada, made an expensive card, but something that fit in the budget.

The next step is to get the complete team set all in PSA slabs, but that is a long way off, but should get closer fairly soon.

Mexican Mailday

My quest for the Redskins 1977 Mexican team set has been going on for a long time, but I think this is the first mail-day actually from Mexico. Not a very exciting card, but I believe it is short printed, and pretty expensive normally, so I was pretty happy to get this copy for around $15 shipped, even if it isn't in the best shape. That just leaves the Redskins checklist and the team set is complete.

White Whale Landed

As I get older, my tastes are getting more expensive, I feel like I have broken my personal record for most spent on a single card a few times this year, and this one broke the record again. I was down to Eddie Brown, one of the Dirty Dozen, as the last player in needed for the 1977 Mexican Redskins team set (still need the checklist and the Mark Moseley leaders card), so it was time to pull the trigger. There just comes a point where you say to yourself, "Hey, I'm and adult, I have a good job, if I want to spend around $200 on a football card, I can"

Señor McLinton

A one card mailday, but a pretty cool one. A 1977 Topps Mexican Harold McLinton, from a team set that I have been working on, off and on, for a long time. It's a little off-center, but in good shape and while not one of the "Dirty Dozen", it is still one of the harder cards in the set to come by. I hope to get this one to PSA, my dream is to PSA the whole team set, and hopefully there will be an update on that soon.

McLinton himself played for the Redskins from 1969-1978, and was named one the teams 70 Greatest Players in 2002. He died tragically in 1980. 

Mailday: 1977 Topps Mexican Frank Grant

A one card mailday bring me closer to completing probably my longest running project, the 1977 Topps Mexican Redskins team set. This is a crazy set to collect cards from and this Frank Grant gives me 17 of the 24 Redskins cards. One of the ones I need is the Eddie Brown, which is part of the "Dirty Dozen" and runs around $250. The 1977 Mexican set features the same 528 cards with the same pictures as the standard American set, but all the text is in Spanish and for the Redskins the team name is in red instead of white. The cards were issued in two card packs with gum, so many of the cards have gum stains and the sheets were cut utilizing a perforated system that left remnants of the perforations on the card edges.
